CCA Announces Nick Barnes as Treasurer

Classical Christian Academy’s Board of Directors voted to accept the nomination of Nick Barnes as Treasurer. Mr. Barnes is a CCA parent and brings considerable financial experience to the role.

Mr. Barnes graduated from Kent State with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance and from the University of Akron with a master’s degree in taxation. He is the Senior Partnership Accountant for a family office, where he specializes in financial model building, family partnership, and trust accounting and tax. In addition, Mr. Barnes is a partner in a firm that helps CPAs buy other firms. He designed a tool that allows buyers and sellers to evaluate a company’s value. He also completes the overflow tax returns for his wife’s tax office.

“CCA has been excellent stewards of the blessings they have been given, and I want to continue that,” Mr. Barnes shared. He further explained that his goal for the school is to “keep growth sustainable and be fiscally responsible for the long term. [My professional experience] allows me to analyze and dig into where things need to work.”

Mr. Barnes joined CCA’s Board of Directors in April and was later nominated for Treasurer. He replaces long-time Board member Amy DeFrance, who served on the Board as Treasurer for five years.

“Our previous treasurer, Amy DeFrance, provided invaluable guidance to our school during a time of decreased enrollment. With her leadership, we made important financial decisions that ultimately benefited our school. We are grateful for her faithfulness and invaluable contributions to CCA,” acknowledged Amy Davis, CCA founder, and principal.

Davis continued, “As Nick steps into this role, we look forward to his considerable experience shaping the future for CCA’s sustainability and growth. As a parent here, he is vested in helping us succeed. More importantly, as a Christian, he shares the priority of honoring the Lord with our finances and as stewards of His blessings.”

“It was refreshing when [Nick] joined the finance committee to have someone provide comments and valuable input from day one,” shared Amy DeFrance. “While I will probably never leave CCA completely, it’s healthy for any non-profit to get some new perspective and set up eyes on the finances. So I’m glad God brought Nick and his family to CCA.”

The Barnes family moved from Ohio in 2016. Their daughter first attended CCA as a kindergarten student three years ago. Mr. Barnes shared that he and his wife searched for a school that allowed for parent involvement and some homeschooling. “We looked at quite a few schools that met the criteria, but CCA was the only one that just felt right.” He explained that while the schoolwork is challenging, “the high expectations of what students should know are great.”

Classical Christian Academy’s board positions are two-year terms with the option to remain with an affirmative vote for up to five years. The Board of Directors has oversight for the school’s operations, planning, and budget.
